I’ve been a reading fiend over the past several months. Since the beginning of September, I’ve read:

Terry Brooks’ The Word And The Void series (three books) and the first two books of his subsequent trilogy The Genesis Of Shannara (which picks up where The Word And The Void trilogy leaves off),

Mary Stewart’s The Crystal Cave,

Mark Twain’s The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn,

Orson Scott Card’s Ender’s Game,

Neville Shute’s Trustee From The Toolroom,

Now, I’m just about to start Orson Scott Card’s Empire.

This dramatic increase in reading is partly due to a little two-person “Book Of The Month Club” that my wife and I decide to form. Each month, we give each other books we think the other will enjoy. Right now, she’s battling through Stephen Ambrose’s Undaunted Courage. I liked the book when I read it, but she’s finding it to be rather slow-moving. Still, it’s an account of one of the most important adventures of American history (the Lewis and Clarke Expedition), and hopefully she gets some enjoyment out of the book.

From the list above, I’d HIGHLY recommend Ender’s Game to those of you who enjoy science-fiction. For those who like suspense (and a plain old downright feel-good story), try and find a copy of Trustee From The Toolroom, though you might have to haunt a used book store or two to find it.

There’s a site I’m a member of entitled GoodReads (http://www.goodreads.com). It’s a great way to get book recommendations and see what friends/others are reading. If you happen to join, be sure to befriend me and you can see a list of my own recommendations.

Hey there – If you enjoy science fiction I highly recommend The Neuromancer by William Gibson. I’ve read it at least four or five times and I never get tired of it.
