Interesting Passages II…

More interesting passages. These from Robert A. Heinlein‘s The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress.

“[There] are no circumstances under which State is justified in placing its welfare ahead of mine.”

“Women are amazing creatures – sweet, soft, gentle, and far more savage than we [men] are.”

“Rules and laws are always for the other fellow, because no one has ever said, ‘Please pass this law so I can’t do something I know I shouldn’t be doing.’

“There is no worse tyranny than to force a man to pay for what he does not want merely because [government] thinks it would be good for him…”

“The power to tax, once conceded, has no limits; it contains until it destroys.”

“TANSTAAFL!” (There Ain’t No Such Thing As A Free Lunch!)

I love Robert Heinlein. Is he a new find for you? I started reading his novels in high school in the late 70′s and haven’t stopped yet. Stranger in a Strange Land, Starship Troopers, Methuselah’s Children, great books.

I don’t know that I’d classify him as a “new find,” as I’ve known about him as an author for quite some time. I just never picked up any of his novels until my wife gave me ‘Time Enough For Love’ as my book-of-the-month about six months ago.

Having read that, I’m now pretty much hooked.

I’ve read three of his novels so far (check my book list to the left) and plan to read as many as I can make time for in the near future.
