Busy, busy, busy…

There have been a few things going on during the last week or two that have kept me away from the update page of this blog. Aside from flying a three-day trip, I’ve been very busy trying to get a few boxes checked off when it comes to the business that Jeannen and I are trying to start. This week I’ve managed to create a legal contract from scratch and submit it to a paralegal for review. I’ve also managed to get an excellent start on our written business plan. You’d think that this would have been the first thing we did in the formation of our little consulting company, but the two-weeks of brainstorming and leg-work that we’ve been doing helped lay the groundwork of information that we’re putting into the formal plan.

Today, I’m in charge of taking care of Catherine while Jeannen goes to a job interview. I’m hoping to catch a few moments of peace this morning to make some phone calls regarding virtual office services. I’m also going to go after some information regarding the types of licenses or permits we have to get in order to actually begin offering our services in the State of California and the County of Los Angeles. The information that the SBA sent is rather vague as to what’s required for a consulting firm, so I’ll be making a few phone calls. After Jeannen gets home, I’ll be heading out to do some research on the rental cost of post-office boxes.

Aside from all that, I’ve been mulling over the possible consequences that bloggers have faced from their employers lately. There have been several incidents where employers have come down rather hard on employees for comments made in their regarding the company. I don’t particularly want to have an anonymous blog, as that defeats one of my main reasons for starting this one: to help my friends and family keep in touch with what I’m doing. “Sterilizing” this blog to remove my name, employer, and other information from it might just make it downright boring and irrelevant to my most important readers. Yet the consequences of not making a change to the way I post here regarding my place of employment could very well result in the career I’ve worked so hard for being flushed right down the toilet. That is, of course, an unacceptable conclusion.

This is an aviatio blog first and foremost, even though it tends to go in other directions quite often. I’ve decided that I’m still going to discuss my job, but I’m going to much more discreet about what I post here. There will be a concerted effort to limit the information to positive things, to not reveal any company practices, and to keep myself out of trouble.

Those of you in the aviation industry who are familiar with Crew Resource Management, I’m counting on you to speak up should I do something stupid. You’ve been good to me in the past, so keep it coming!

A veritable loss to those of us in the audience interested in all the gory details.

I’m already posting stories from a collection of my own past jobs, and as passed on from other people. I’ll happily be the clearing house for stories that can’t be posted on “nonymous” blogs. The entries will start, “a commercial pilot of my aquaintance …” or “I once heard a rumour that …”
