Hail Mary…

Forgive me Bloggers, for I have sinned. It has been nine days since my last journal entry.

There hasn’t really been a whole lot going on aviation-wise that’s any different than most days. I still enjoy getting up and going to work every day for the best airline on the planet! I’ve been doing a lot of west-coast flying the last several trips, which is what I prefer (I think I’ve said that before). With home-overnights (BUR or LAX), the trips really seem to go by fast. Tomorrow I start a four-day with overnights in TUL, LAX, and BUR, so I get to see my family a lot! BUR is kind of a short overnight with a late block-in time (about 5pm), so Jeannen is going to pack Cat up in her car seat and bring her on over to our overnight hotel for dinner.

Speaking of Catherine, she learned to walk last Thursday! At this point, she mostly takes a few steps and falls on her butt, but she’s gone as many as 18 or 20 steps consecutively, too! And she’s getting to the point where she doesn’t need any furniture or outside help to get on her feet again! Before long, she’ll be tearing around the house on two-feet!

It sure is fun to watch her develop!

We (meaning Jeannen and I) have been very hard at work on getting our new consulting business set up (see this post for the beginnings of the process). It’s been a lot of work! It kind of makes me wish that we could call someone or go to some site on the internet and just order a montage. You know, like they used to do in all those cheesy 80′s movies, MacGuyver, The A-Team, and Baywatch where they’d take a task that would obviously take quite a long time and a lot of work, set it to bad music, and show five-second clips of each step required to reach the end result? All-in-all they’d eat up maybe a minute of the show, leaving the rest of time allotted for more explosions, car-flips, etc.

So everything is pretty-much set for our launch-date of 8/31. Our new website is done (I managed to learn enough about MS FrontPage to do it myself). We’ve got our business licenses. Our initial advertisement (a tri-fold direct mailer) is at the printer’s along with the business cards we ordered. Our virtual phone system is set-up. We got our mailing address (a nice litte P.O. box we like to call a “suite”). Our contract is drawn up and has been approved by a lawyer. Everything’s going to be ready to go when we go “live” on the 31st. All we have to do is sit back and wait for the money to come rolling in the door.

If it were only that easy.

We still have a lot of work to do. Most of what’s left is design work. We need to come up with a method of presenting data to our clients. We need to design an invoicing system. We’re even thinking about contracting with a software programmer to create a simple tool for us to use to help streamline our research. But above all else, we’ve got to learn how to sell our services when potential clients (hopefully) start calling.

It’s going to get stressful around here in a very short time, I’m afraid.

In the meantime, I’ve been riding my bike an awful lot during my off-time. In the last four days, I’ve managed to put 45 miles on it’s odometer. Today alone, I rode 12. Typically, it’s been back and fourth to my mom’s place (which, round-trip, is about 9 miles if I take the short way), but I’ve been adding the miles to each trip.

The goal (of course) is to get into better shape than I’m in. Realistically, I need to lose about 50 pounds. Now if I could just match the increased exercise with a decreased intake of crappy airport food, I might actually lose an inch or two!

Good luck on the business! I checked out the website nicely done, even though I have no idea what you are doing. I am sure the people that need your services will know though!
